The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Criollos (11-6) in Caguas on Monday night. Hosts were rolled over by third ranked Osos (10-10) 110-88. Manati looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Norris Cole (188-1988, college: CSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 assists. Guard Alex Morales (198-1997, college: Wagner) contributed with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Louis King (201-1999, college: Oregon) answered with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Caguas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Manati maintains third place with 10-10 record having five points less than leader Caguas. Caguas at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. Manati are looking forward to face league's second-placed Guaynabo at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Caguas will play against Santurce and are hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Mayaguez. Sixth ranked Leones (7-10) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging much higher ranked Indios (12-8) 101-98 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Indios. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points. Jordan Murphy helped adding 23 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American Milton Doyle (193-1993, college: Loyola, IL) responded with 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ponce maintains sixth place with 7-10 record. Mayaguez at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Ponce will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mayaguez will play on the road against Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Aguada between Aguada and Gigantes. Fourth ranked Aguada (9-14) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Gigantes (8-11). Aguada managed to escape with a 3-point win 86-83 in the fight for the fourth place. It was an exceptional evening for Chinanu Onuaku who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. George Conditt IV came up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for Carolina in the defeat. Aguada maintains fourth place with 9-14 record. Defending champion Carolina keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. Aguada will meet league's leader Arecibo on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Carolina will play against the league's leader Arecibo (#1) and hope to secure a win.
Other games in round 19 were not that significant. Arecibo beat Ponce on the road 91-80. San German lost to Santurce on its own court 91-95. Bayamon unfortunately lost to Guaynabo in a road game 80-88. Santurce recorded a loss to San German at home 73-78. Manati was defeated by Arecibo on the opponent's court 132-128.
